SWM ESG portfolio performance September 2018

The market see-sawing over the summer months continued in September, with global equities squeezing out a 0.43% gain. SWM’s ESG portfolios were broadly flat for the month, with some drag from weakness in bond positions. Concerns re the global trade war receded somewhat, however bonds saw some weakness as investors fretted about the reduction of liquidity by Central Banks.

Technical indicators in the US market reached several new bull market highs, with measures of Supply languishing at the post-2007 lows. US small cap stocks appear not to be participating in the current rally, an area which bears monitoring. Overall however, the US bull market is intact, we remain overweight global equities / underweight bonds.
